faux marble necklace

DIY faux marble necklace
DIY faux marble necklace

It's been a hot minute since I've done a polymer clay tutorial! I wanted to add another piece to my collection of pretty dangly things, & through pure accident this faux fun was born. I was trying to mimic one kind of rock (trying to make agate, actually), got frustrated, then ended up with marble! It's great when mistakes work out in the end.

Materials needed for marble clay necklace

To make this pendant, you'll need a few things:

  • White polymer clay
  • Black polymer clay
  • X-acto knife
  • Chain
  • Wire
  • Pliers
  • Toothpick (or other thin tool, I'm using this metal "pokey" thing)
  • A round object to roll out clay (not pictured; I used the handle of my x-acto knife)

Mix clay together to create marble effect

Preheat your oven to 275ยบ.

Mix some black & white clay together to make gray. Then, mix the gray with some more white, but don't thoroughly mix it. You want to get a marble look with the white & gray. Try squishing & pulling the two clays together.

Mix marbled gray & white clay with white to create DIY pendant

Line up a big ball of the "marbled" clay with a ball of white, about 1/2" thick, then press them together to form a rectangle. Roll it out until it is 1/4" inch thick.

Cut the edges smooth to create this faux marble pendant

Using the x-acto knife, cut a rectangle from the clay. Be careful not to handle the clay too much or you'll leave fingerprints.

Polymer clay faux marble pendant - make your own!

Poke two holes in the top of the rectangle. Transfer to a pan lined with aluminum foil & bake for 10 minutes.

Add a gold chain to this DIY pendant for a fun statement piece

Once cooled, run wire through the holes in the rectangle. Then run the wires through the ends of the gold chain. Twist the ends of the wires with pliers.

Make your own marble necklace

Done! I love how random the marbled clay comes out. So many possibilities!

P.S. The polymer party continues with this throwback gold arrow necklace tutorial.
